June 28, 2013
Dysart Reporter

Friends and family of Mike Lassen are planning a benefit for him on Friday, July 12, at the Dysart Community Building from 5-10 p.m. Mike has recently been diagnosed with stage four metastasized renal cell carcinoma, which is also known as kidney cancer. Since the diagnosis, he has been hospitalized for blood clots and fluid in his lungs. Mike grew up in Dysart and graduated from Dysart-Geneseo in 1970. He has spent his time farming in the area, working in the construction industry, and is currently employed at LiquiGrow in Traer. Mike and his wife, Becky, live in Dysart where he is currently on oxygen and recuperating from his most recent hospitalization. Due to this, he has incurred a loss of income, and a number of medical expenses. The proceeds from this benefit will assist with out-of-pocket medical expenses that are not covered by insurance. The event will start with a hog roast dinner, followed by a live and silent auction, bake sale, and live music by Redline. Please drop any donations off for the auctions and bake sale at the Dysart Community Building on Thursday, July 11, after 3 p.m. and any time after 12 p.m. on Friday, July 12. All bake sale items need to be in disposable containers. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated. For more information regarding the benefit, please contact Vanessa Wieck at 319-640-5300, or Hilary Wieck at 319-464-7700. Redline will also be selling special t-shirts for the benefit to be worn that night. If you would like to pre-order t-shirts, please contact Kevin Kugel at 319-476-4895. They will also be available for purchase the night of the benefit. All proceeds from the t-shirts will go to Mike.
