Six UMS students in Honor Band

Six students from the Union Middle School Band program were chosen to participate in the NEIBA Honor Band held at Oelwein High School on Saturday, December 1st, 2012. Brady Rempe, 8th grade trombone player and son of Bruce and Mabel Rempe, Taylor Brown, 8th grade trumpet player and son of Dwaine and Teresa Brown, Hallie Spore, 8th grade trumpet player and daughter of Chad and Heidi Spore, Zach Winkelpleck, 8th grade trombone player and son of Jon and Suzanne Winkelpleck, Lyric Dutton, 7th grade clarinet player and daughter of Matt and Angela Coverdale, and Lauren Harrigan, 7th grade clarinet player and daughter of William and Lesley Harrigan, have all received this honor.

Students were chosen from about 60 participating schools in the northeast district of Iowa and two bands of 130 players were formed of highly qualified middle school musicians. Musicians rehearsed all day Saturday, December 1st and presented their concert at 5:00 PM at the Oelwein High School gymnasium. The two bands were under the direction of Ms. Linda Johansen, director in the North Fayette Community School District, and Ms. Jane Triplett, director in the Iowa City Community School District.
