Darlene Mae Meyer died Tuesday, October 16, at Bartels Lutheran Home in Waverly, from complications due to having fallen and broken her hip several weeks prior. She was the daughter of Roy and Martha (Koenig) Menzel, born on May 1, 1925.
Darlene graduated from Waverly High School and taught country school before she married Wilbert Meyer, son of Louis and Ella (Fasse) Meyer, on February 16, 1947. The couple farmed in rural Sumner for the majority of their 65 years together.
She is survived by her husband, Wilbert; her son, Ivan (June) Meyer of Tripoli; her daughters Elaine (Michael) Fink of Traer; Shirley (Patrick) Schlievert of Iowa City; Marion (Randel) Bohr of Tripoli; and Lisa Meyer of Omaha; one brother Marlin (Cleo) Menzel; one brother-in-law Mervin (Merge) Meyer; one sister-in-law Donna Mae Meyer; ten grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, two infant children Lois and Dennis, her sister Audrey Spooner, and her brother-in-law Arlin Meyer.
Darlene was a member of the United Methodist church in Sumner. The funeral for Darlene was held at Bartels Good Shepherd Chapel in Waverly on October 20th. She was buried at Harlington Cemetery in Waverly.
