“Around the World with Music

"Around the World with Music" is the theme of the band concert to be presented on Sunday, April 18, 2010, at 2 p.m. at the What Cheer, Iowa Opera House. There is no admission charge, a free will donation will be collected. The 48 piece What Cheer Winds band is directed by Gary Huxford. The program will include marches from Norway, Poland, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Mexico, and Italy. Soprano Alissa Biesche will sing "Blue Moon." She will be joined by tenor Rich Thorson for "A Mighty Fortress if Our God." This is the fifth annual concert by the What Cheer Winds in the historic opera house setting. The musicians, who range in age from 22 to 80, salute a performance done by Sousa's band in the same venue 104 years ago.
