The Union wrestling program came out of Sectionals at Aplington-Parkersburg on Saturday, Feb. 2 with nine District qualifiers and the team crowned Sectional Champions ahead of hosting Regional Duals.

To qualify for Districts at Independence, wrestlers neeeded to finish in the top two of their weight class. Union had five wrestlers win their weight classes at A-P: Lincoln Mehlert at 106 lbs, Lake LeBahn at 126 lbs, Jack Thomsen at 138 lbs, Adam Ahrendsen at 152 lbs, and Lane Albertsen at 220 pounds. Also qualifying with second place finishes were Kolten Crawford at 113 lbs, Hunter Worthen at 120 lbs, Stone Schmitz at 132 lbs and Kaleb Roach at 160 lbs.

"I always feel we coul get more kid in, yet we got some good numbers up on the podium," coach Bart Mehlert said. "Everyone wrestled well with high expectations on Saturday."

Union also won their Sectional in a tight team race with Independence, taking the title with 247.5 points to the Mustang's 240 points. The Knights hosted Regional duals on Wednesday that include Webster City, Centerville and Crestwood after being postponed Tuesday.

"The race was a bit tighter than we hoped," Mehlert said. "The oppurtunity to host is great because of the home crowd. We lost to Crestwood at the Battle of Waterloo by only two points, so we're hoping the crowd can help us through this time."

The Knights took down Webster City 38-34 in a tight contest before falling to Crestwood 36-29 as the Cadets move on to State Duals.

Next for the Knights are Districts, with the top two in each class moving on to the State Wrestling Tournament in Des Moines February 14-16. State Duals will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 13. Check back with The Dysart Reporter for results from Regional Duals and Districts in next week's paper.
