Charles "Norman" Mitchell was born on November 5, 1916, in rural Buckingham, Iowa, the son of Claude and Sara (Burr) Mitchell. Norman grew up in Geneseo and graduated from Geneseo High School in 1934. On November 25, 1937, Norman was united in marriage to Doris Speer at Geneseo United Methodist Church. Norman farmed all of his life. He enjoyed woodworking and traveling all over Iowa with Doris. He was a lifelong member of Geneseo United Methodist Church. Norman died at the age of 97 on Saturday, August 30, 2014, at Friendship Village in Waterloo. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Robert, Frank and Roland; and two sisters, Fanny and Edith Mitchell. Norman is survived by his wife; three sons, Craig (Diane) Mitchell of Des Moines, Brent (Sheryl) Mitchell of Cape Coral, Florida, and Ken (Pamela) Mitchell of Waterloo; two brothers, Herald (Elsie) Mitchell and Philip Mitchell; six grandchildren, Brad (Ellen) Mitchell, Kimm (Mike) Gilmore, Jonathon (Kim) Mitchell, Jason (Candy) Mithcell, Jill (Kurt) Katuin, and Kate (John Leadley) Mitchell; and 13 great grandchildren.
