In the wake of Susan Loeb's passing from cancer on July 27, 2013, a scholarship was set up in her name through her family and Union High School. Susan was an educator at Hawkeye Community College. Her love was preparing students to enter the nursing field. A scholarship of $1000 was set up and available for graduating seniors preparing to enter the medical field with preference given to students particularity interested in nursing. This year's winner was Brenna Allen, who is planning to major in nursing. In order to keep this scholarship continuing for future nurses, a charity golf tournament has been set up to raise money for this great cause. A two person best golf tournament will be held on Saturday July 26, 2014 at the Laporte City Golf Course. The event pre-register is at 9:00 with the golf starting at 10:00. To sign up, call the Laporte City Golf Course (319-342-2249). This will be an an nual event to continue to help promising young people with their dreams of becoming a nurse. There will be a social that follows for those not interested in golfing. If you would like to donate to this worthy cause, donations can be sent to the Susan Loeb Scholarship Fund, P.O.
