Union splits Hudson doubleheader

The Union Baseball Team recently traveled to Hudson for a conference doubleheader and came away with a split with the home team.

In game one, Hudson jumped to an early 2-0 lead after two innings of play. Union scored three in the top of the third to take the lead. Stech and Kiler reached on back to back walks, Alpers followed with a hit, and Carey was walked to reach base. Barz came up with a two out, two run single to help the Knights take the lead. Union scored one more in the fourth when Lambe lead off the inning with a single and scored on a double by Stech. Union tacked on four more in the top of the fifth as Tecklenburg lead off with a single and scored on a sacrifice by Sells. Sells was able to reach base on the sacrifice and scored on a double by Stech. Lambe reached on a walk and scored on a ground out by Kiler. Koby Alpers added to the scoring with a RBI single to round out the four run inning. Hudson answered right back by scoring two runs in the bottom half to make the score 8-4 after five innings of play. Union remained scoreless in the final two innings while Hudson scored two in the bottom of the seventh before Union was able to finish the game with a 8-6 win.

The following had hits for the Knights: Tecklenburg, Barz, Lambe, Stech (3), Kiler, and Alpers (2).

Barz earned the win on the mound while Tecklenburg collected his second save of the year.

In game two, Hudson would take an early lead scoring one in the second off Union starter Ted Tecklenburg. Union would tie the game in the fourth when Tecklenburg reached on a single and scored on a Barz single. The game would remain tied until the sixth when Hudson would capitalize on two Union mistakes to take a 2-1 lead. Union was unable to get anything going in the seventh and suffered another one run defeat.

Tecklenburg suffered the loss on the mound striking out six, walking one, and giving up no earned runs.

The following had hits for the Knights: Tecklenburg (3), Kiler, and Barz (2).

Union is now 7-6 in the conference and 7-14 overall.
