Emma C. Rofles, 100

Emma Christina Rolfes was born on December 6, 1913, in Howard County, Iowa, the daughter of Knut and Bessie (Anderson) Kjarvik. She grew up in a family of twelve and attended country school in Chickasaw County. Emma worked as a maid for the Limbert family in Waterloo. On February 19, 1941, she was united in marriage to Leo Raymond Rolfes at Scared Heart Catholic Church in Reilly Ridge, Iowa. The couple made their home in the Traer and Dysart area. The last six years, Emma lived in the Keystone Care Center. If it could be raised, canned, baked, or cooked, Emma could do it. She enjoyed sewing, handwork, playing cards, gardening, cooking, and her many church circles. Emma died at the age of 100 on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at the Keystone Nursing Care Center. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and eleven brothers and sisters. Emma is survived by a son, Dennis (Lana) Rolfes of Waterloo; a daughter, Diane (Dave) Herman of Atkins; a brother in law, Elmer Rolfes; two sisters in law, Marie Van Houten and Lillian Rolfes; four grandchildren, David, Daniel and Deanna Herman and Christina Rolfes; five great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; one step granddaughter, Rhonda Lloyd; seven step great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Emma's family would like to thank the Keystone Nursing Care Center for their loving care.
