Michael "Mike" Douglas Fordice was born on May 25, 1949, in Waterloo, the son of Jack and Ona (Goodwin) Fordice. Mike grew up in Dysart and graduated from Dysart-Geneseo High School with the class of 1967. He served his country in the United States Navy from 1967 to 1971. He served on the USS Constellation and the USS Enterprise. Mike worked at John Deere for thirteen years and then started his own locksmith business called MD Fordice Locksmith Company. He also worked in newspaper distribution for the Wallstreet Journal, Red Barron and the Cedar Rapids Gazette. Mike enjoyed racing stock cars, hunting, fishing and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He was also a member of the Dysart American Legion. Mike died at the age of 64 on Friday, March 7, 2014, at his home. He was preceded in death by a sister, Jacqueline "Jackie" Fordice Krough and his maternal and paternal grandparents. Mike is survived by his parents; two daughters, Melanie Klein of Iowa City and Shannon (Ron) Hageman of Michigan; a grandson; a granddaughter; a niece, Kimberly (Chad) Prichard; and two nephews, Michael (Sheila) Driscol and Nicholas Krough.
