Jack J. Fordice was born on October 31, 1926, in Dysart, the son of John and Ruth (Heckroth) Fordice. Jack grew up in Dysart and attended school until the 10th grade. He then served his country in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946. On October 31, 1947, Jack was united in marriage to Ona Goodwin in Tama at the Methodist Church Parsonage. Jack worked with his step dad for 25 years, starting the Doty and Fordice Blacksmith and Repair Company. He then worked from Luze Manufacturing from 1970 to 1977 and then Schoitz Memorial Hospital (Covenant Medical Center) until his retirement in 1997. Jack attended the Dysart united Methodist Church and was a member of the Dysart American Legion for 69 years. Jack died at the age of 87 on Sunday, March 9, 2014, at Sunnycrest Nursing Home in Dysart where he lived his entire life. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Jacqueline "Jackie" Fordice Krough; a son, Mike Fordice; and his step father, Douglas Doty. Jack is survived by his wife; five grandchildren, Kimberly (Chad) Prichard, Mike (Sheila) Driscol, Nicholas Krough, Shannon (Ron) Hageman and Melanie Klein; and seven great grandchildren.
