The Union girls basketball team, winners of five of their final six regular season games, will have a home game to tip off district action this weekend.

The Knights (12-8) face Independence (8-11) in the opening round of district play this Saturday, February 15 at 7 p.m. in La Porte City.

The girls have been led this season by senior Breann Bader, who is averaging 14.9 points per game. Bader is also tied for second on the team with 4.3 rebounds per game.

Junior Morgan Phillips has been Union's biggest threat on the boards, grabbing 6.7 rebounds per game. Freshman Courtney Powell leads the Knights with 65 assists and 54 steals this season, and is the team's second-leading scorer at 7.7 points per game.

Should the girls win on Saturday, they will advance to face the winner of Oelwein and Columbus Catholic in Oelwein on Wednesday, February 19 at 7 p.m.
