Dysart Lions Pancake Day is this weekend

January 31, 2014
Dysart Reporter

The Dysart Lions are preparing to serve their annual Pancakes and Sausage Breakfast on Sunday, February 2. This is a Lions tradition that dates back in the club's records to 1963. This year's profits will go to the clubs local projects which includes the Sights First program at the Dysart-Geneseo Elementary and Preschool. This is where the club members take pictures of the eyes of students with a special camera and the pictures then go to the University of Iowa eye clinic to be reviewed. Other local projects include the purchasing of eyeglasses for students the teachers feel have a sight problem. The school will contact Dwayne Luze who will call the student's parents and refer them to the optometrists who works with our club. He will check the student's eyes and fit them with glasses, and the Dysart Lions pay the bill. This program is not limited to just students as we will help adults also. Over the years, the Pancake Day has made it possible for the club to furnish Holiday Cheer Food Boxes, build shelter houses in the park, build a tennis court, basketball court, the Lion drinking fountain, help Eagle Scouts with donations to the projects they want to do, and donate to and sponsor fund raising events for many causes in our community. We follow the Lions motto of "We Serve." The Dysart Lions meet on the first and third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Dysart Community Building and would welcome anyone who would like to join us! The Club was charted in February of 1950 and has served Dysart ever since. The Lions were the club that started the first swimming pool project in 1960. The Lions realize there have been many fund raising events in the Dysart community in December and January and we certainly hope many of our residents will see fit to come to the Community Building on the 2nd of February for breakfast or Sunday lunch after church to enjoy good food and fellowship. We will have all you can eat pancakes with sausages and juice, milk, or coffee. The hours of service are 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All of this and the cost is just a free will donation! We look forward to seeing you.
