Onnah Dvorak, the daughter of Mark and Nancy Dvorak, is a fun-loving, all-smiles 2nd grader at Benton Community Schools in Van Horne. Ever since Onnah was approximately two years old, she has had a disease called FSGS, Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis. Despite all of the hard times and pain, Onnah continues to smile and bring joy to everyone around her.
FSGS is a disease that attacks the kidneys and creates imbalances that cause her skin to puff up and tighten. This creates excruciating pain. Onnah's doctors are now facing the decision of moving towards a kidney transplant to help maintain these skin outbreaks.
As you can only imagine, this has been a very difficult few years for the Dvorak's-emotionally, physically, and financially draining is just the beginning of the struggles they face daily. They have lost income due to Onnah's frequent hospital visits and stays, plus they have had to remodel their home to accommodate her dialysis.
They are planning a benefit for Onnah on February 9th at 5 p.m. However, donations of any kind are more than welcomed by the family, at anytime. If you are able to donate money to help Onnah get a new kidney, you can send the money to Keystone Savings Bank, 81 Main St. Keystone, IA 52249, c/o Onnah Dvorak Family Benefit. The family is also looking for local business who would be able to donate an item, or gift certificate to put up for auction at the upcoming benefit. If you would like to donate items or help out in any other way, please contact Sue Gessner at 319-223-5495 or Daralee Schnor at 319-442-3414.
