Curtis D. Jans, 83, of Traer and formerly of Dysart, passed away on Monday, August 12, 2013 at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer of natural causes. Service will be held at the United Methodist Church in Dysart on Friday, August 16, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. with visitation one hour prior. Burial and military rites will follow at the Dysart Cemetery.
Curtis Duane Jans was born October 11, 1929 at Dysart, IA, son of Arthur and Minnie Wertzel Jans. He received his education in Dysart and graduated from high school in 1947. On December 31, 1950 he was united in marriage to Billie Lee Stickels in Vinton, IA. He served his country during the Korean War. After his discharge he and Bille made their home farming all their married life in the Dysart area. In his free time he enjoyed going to the casino, square dancing and going to the lake with his family. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and Dysart American Legion. Curtis's death came at the Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer on Monday, August 12, 2013 at the age of 83 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife Billie of Traer, one son Greg (Pat) Jans of Dysart and one daughter Jackie (Brad) Shatzer of Hudson, IA, 4 grandchildren; Nathan Jans and wife Stacie of Dysart, Jennifer and husband Shane DeGeeter of Sully, IA, Brice Shatzer of Mt. Prospect, IL and Cade Shatzer of Waverly, IA, 4 great granddhildren Curtis and Corbin Jans and Danica and Sylas DeGeeter.
He was a quiet man who loved family, friends, farming, fishing and playing cards. His smile and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.
