The Yard of the Month for July belongs to Ora and Jackie Hennessy. They have lived in their beautiful home for 48 years. The house sits on what is now a spacious corner lot. Originally there was a house to their side, but 12 years ago they purchased the property, tore down the old house and extended their yard to the corner. They also put an addition on their house around the same time.
When they are not busy polishing up their bright red 1961 Corvette, Ora loves to keep the yard looking sharp by mowing at least a few times a week. He also volunteers to tend to the Dysart corners located at the intersection of highway 8 as you enter into town. Jackie loves to take care of the flowers and yard decorations. They also have a small raised bed with some different vegetables in it.
Some of their favorite decorations are the stained glass artwork pictured. Their daughter Jodie Harber, who now resides in Texas, created the pieces for them. They are very special, as one is of their Corvette, and another is their last name. She also created a stained glass piece of the home, which they have displayed in the front window.
One of Jackie's most treasured areas of her yard is the back patio. She plants several bright and lavish plants in an eclectic array of pots and baskets. They also have a rain barrel located on the back of their home. Jackie said she has noticed a drastic difference in not only the savings on water, but the dramatic and positive effect it has had on her plants-they have been growing better than ever since they started using the rain water barrel 3 years ago.
