Susan L. Loeb, 63, of La Porte City, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo after a battle with cancer. Visitation and services were held at Overton Funeral Home of Dysart and Zion Lutheran Jubilee Church in rural La Porte City on Tuesday, July 30, and Wednesday, July 31. Burial will occur at a later date at Zion Lutheran Jubilee Cemetery.

Susan Lea Loeb was born September 11, 1949 at Allen Hospital in Waterloo, IA, daughter of George and Betty Belle (Monroe) Horsman. At the age of 14 she started working as a nurse's aid in Vinton, IA. She started school at Geneseo School and later graduated from La Porte City High School in 1967. She continued her interest in nursing and attended Allen School of Nursing. She obtained her Registered Nurse degree and later her Bachelors. She married Jim Loeb and they were married for over 40 years. Susan started working as the Director of Nursing at Sunnycrest Care Center in Dysart later becoming Administrator. She transferred to Crestview Acres in Marion as Administrator and then to Lutheran Home in Cedar Falls. With the help of her friend Becky Rowe they established Care Initiatives Hospice. She also taught nursing classes at Kirkwood College, Allen School of Nursing and Hawkeye Community College. Her death came on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo at the age of 63 years. She is survived by her husband Jim of La Porte City, three sons, Thad (Justina) Loeb of West Des Moines, IA, Clint (financi' Seraysa Mundt) of Garrison, IA and Zach (Ashlie) Loeb of La Porte City, IA, a daughter Julie (Luke) Merfeld of Dubuque, IA, her mother Betty Horsman of La Porte City and 12 grandchildren.
