Cheerleading finishes 5th at state

June 7, 2013
Alissa Klenk - Reporter , Dysart Reporter

The Union High School Competition Squad had a successful year. In the fall, the squad won first place in a competition at Westdale Mall in Cedar Rapids. Later on, the squad won first place at a competition at the University of Northern Iowa. In November, they competed in the annual State Cheerleading Competition and placed fifth overall out of 17. Motivated to show they were better than fifth placers, the squad practiced even harder. Their hard work paid off in the Midwest Cheer Championships where they placed first. In previous years, the Spirit of America Competition, held at the Mall of America, has been a challenge to Union High School cheerleaders. But this year, they worked harder than ever and earned yet another first place trophy.
