Dysart Community Foundation holds meeting

The Dysart Community Foundation Board met on May 14, 2013, at the Dysart City Hall to consider 12 grant applications seeking $12,037 for community betterment initiatives. The Dysart Community Foundation is a 501c(3) tax-exempt organization with the purpose of receiving and accepting gifts for educational, cultural, community betterment, and other charitable purposes. The Foundation distributes endowment income and unrestricted gifts through a competitive grant process to Dysart area non-profit groups for the purpose of enhancing the quality of life in the Dysart area. Restricted gifts received are directed to the intended recipients. For calendar year 2012, the foundation realized $7,545.89 in funds available for distribution in 2013, derived from income from a growing endowment fund together with the benevolence of local citizens and business. Grant requests were approved for the following organizations in the Dysart community: Norma Anders Public Library, Dysart Swim Team, Dysart Community VBS, LaMaison Women's Club, Dysart Historical Society, Union Middle School, Dysart-Geneseo Elementary School, Wolf Creek Players, Dysart Lions Club, Boys Scout Troop 325, and Dysart Development Corporation. Since its inception in 1997, the foundation distributions for area initiatives have totaled $46,943 through calendar year 2012. The Dysart Community Foundation receives and accepts property and gifts for the benefit of Dysart and its citizens, making distributions to community organizations such as those named above, either at the donor's directive, or as determined by its local Board of Directors. Gift planning through the Dysart Community Foundation is tax deductible and is an exemplary way to make a lasting impact for the community. Planned gifts to the foundation may be made in cash, appreciated securities, real estate, pledges, deferred gifts (such as life insurance proceeds or bequests through wills), or charitable remainder trusts.
