Youth basketball teams get their shot

March 15, 2013
Dysart Reporter

All Iowa youth basketball teams in grades 5-9 may enter the Pacesetter Iowa Youth Basketball State Tournament playoffs in Cedar Falls or Ankeny on Saturday or Sunday, March 23-24.

Pacesetter state championships are held in Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota with the top two teams from each state advancing to the Great Four-State Championships at the Target Center in Minneapolis, which is the home court of the NBA Timberwolves and WNBA Lynx. Both the Lynx and Timberwolves sponsor this four-state playoff system. The Timberwolves provide every player in the playoffs with a free ticket offer for the 2013-2014 season, and the Lynx invite the Great State players to special fan experiences at one of the home games that is held in conjunction with the Great State games.

All teams that enter the playoffs in Cedar Falls or Ankeny will play 3-4 games in one day. The Pacesetter playoffs require Hometown Team eligibility for each team. All players must either attend the same school or live in the same school district. Smaller schools may combine with a combined enrollment for grades 9-12 of 400 or fewer.

The Iowa state champions in 2012 were Linn Mar, 5th grade boys; Pella, 6th grade boys; Pella, 7th grade boys; Ankeny, 8th grade boys; Collins-Maxell-Baxter, 9th grade boys; Cedar Falls, 5th grade girls; Indianola, 6th grade girls; Linn Mar, 7th grade girls; Lansing, 8th grade girls and St. Edmund, 9th grade girls. Iowa brought home three four-state titles when Pella, 6th and 7th grade boys and Ankeny 8th grade boys went on to win Pacesetter Great Four-State championships at the Target Center last summer.

Each gender and grade division is limited to 16 teams. All divisions were still open as of March 8. Interested teams may receive more information and register online at www.pacesetternet.com.
