The 2013 North Iowa Cedar League East All-Conference teams were announced this week, and the Knights were well-represented among that group.

Senior Sam Barz was named as a First Team All-Conference performer for the second time in her career. Barz also made First Team as a sophomore and missed much of her junior year with an injury.

She led the team in scoring with 14.5 points per game and also led the Knights with 8.8 rebounds per game. Barz recorded a team high 28 blocks and also had 44 steals and 35 assists on the year.

Sam Barz, seen here in her senior picture, was named as a North Iowa Cedar League East All-Conference performer for her outstanding efforts on the basketball court this season. Barz was also nominated—by this newspaper—to receive All-State consideration this week.

She was nominated by the Dysart Reporter as an All-State performer for her work on the court this year. The All-State selection meeting was held Saturday, March 2, in Des Moines and results will be available in the coming weeks.

Barz was also selected to the Class 3A Northeast All-District Team by the Iowa Girls' Coaches Association (IGCA). She will play in the IGCA State All Star Game at Kirkwood College in Cedar Rapids on April 6 and 7.

Payton Hilton was also honored with a Second Team All-Conference selection for the second consecutive year. Hilton averaged 11 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per game. She had 23 steals, 15 blocks, and 47 assists on the season.

Joining her as a Second Team All-Conference performer was junior guard Breann Bader, who was an honorable mention as a sophomore. Bader blossomed into a scoring threat during the second half of the season, adding offense to her arsenal as a capable guard. She averaged 10 PPG while dishing out 34 assists and grabbing 40 steals during the 2012-13 season.

Emily Phillips, who led the Knights with 63 assists and 46 steals this year, was named as an Honorable Mention. Phillips helped facilitate the offense for the Union squad, which finished 12-8 (8-4) in the regular season before falling to rival Center Point-Urbana in regional tournament play.

Natalie Hanson was selected to the Academic All-State team by the IGCA, meeting a very strict set of academic criteria. Academic All-Staters must have a score of at least 27 on the ACT as well as a GPA of 3.75 or higher.
