It may not look like it, but spring is just around the corner, and the After Prom Committee at Union is ramping up efforts with an annual event that is fun and beneficial to all.
The Spring Fling 5K Run & Walk will be held Saturday, March 16, at Union High School in La Porte City. Beginning at 9 a.m., area residents will meet at the high school track to run or walk a five-kilometer course around town.
Medals will be given to the top three finishers in each division, with trophies being awarded to the top overall male and female runners. Age divisions include: under 14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60+.
Proceeds will benefit the Union High School After Prom Committee in their quest to make the yearly rite of passage a fun and safe time for Union students.
Pre-registration is encouraged, and guarantees particpants will receive a t-shirt. The cost of registration prior to March 6 is $15 and includes the t-shirt and refreshments. Registration after March 6 and on the day of the race (between 6:45 and 7:45) will cost $20.
Packet may be picked up on race day beginning at 7:45 a.m. and all packets should be picked up before 8:45 a.m. There will be a separate table for participants who have pre-registered.
A water station will be available at the halfway point of the race and post-race refreshments will also be provided.
If you'd like to register for this fun event, please see the order form included on page 2 of this week's print issue of the Dysart Reporter.
