Union High School hosted the NICL Conference 2013 Vocal Festival on January 21. High school choirs from Dike-New Hartford, Grundy Center, BCLUW, and Gladbrook-Reinbeck joined the UHS Concert Choir for an all day rehearsal with evening performances.
Dr. Andrew Last, Assistant Professor of Music at Luther College, was the guest conductor this year. Dr. Last teaches private voice and conducting and also conducts the Collegiate Chorale and the first-year men's ensemble Norsemen.
The evening began with performances from each choir. The UHS Concert Choir put on an outstanding performance of "Africa" (arr. Phillip Lawson) that left the audience on the edge of their seats.

The performances came to a close with all of the choirs coming together to sing three songs as the Festival Choir. After the performance, Dr. Last encouraged the students to keep singing after high school and stressed the importance of music in life.
