Dysart-Geneseo Elementary students kicked off their Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart fundraiser on February 1. All of the funds raised will be donated to the American Heart Association.
Ryan and Laura Moody were guest speakers at the assembly. The couple shared the story of their son Danson, who was born with congenital heart disease. Today, Danson is a healthy and active boy thanks to life-saving surgery.
Dysart-Geneseo students raise money for the American Heart Association every other year. In 2011, students raised $5,670.
Above, students dance before the assembly begins. Below, Laura Moody teaches the students about how the heart works. Left, Ryan Moody tells the students about his son Danson’s battle with congenital heart disease, while Danson gives his mom, Laura Moody, a hug.
At the assembly, staff provided incentives for the students to raise money. If various goals are met, Mr. Ewald will shave his hair in a heart shape, kiss a pig, and have pies thrown in his face.
Anyone in the community may donate to D-G's Jump Rope/Hoops for Heart event. Cash, checks, or online donations (www.heart.org/jump; select "Dysart" then click "Join Team") are accepted. Checks should be made out to the American Heart Association.
