Wrestling squad wins double dual

The Union Knights wrestling squad continued its winning ways this week, defeating Jesup and East Marshall in a double dual on January 17.

The only Knights to fall against Jesup were in the 106, 113, 120 and 195-pound weight classes.

Max Thomsen won his match at 126 pounds by forfeit 39 seconds in, and Trevor McLaughlin also won by forfeit at 132 pounds.

Austin Dengler, Jacob Holschlag and Logan Thomsen all won their matches at 138, 145 and 152 pounds, respectively.

Cole Reiter scored a 4-3 victory over Riley Murray in the 160-pound slot, and Christian Gray and Tanner Shirk won their matches at 170 and 182.

Jace Hadachek and Josh Clark had no competition.

Against East Marshall, the score was ever more lopsided as the Knights won 65-9. Blake Havran and Tanner Shirk were the only Union wrestlers to fall.

Jon Hellman won a 17-0 decision at 106 pounds, and Ryder Albertsen outwrestled his opposition 8-2 at 113 pounds.

Max Thomsen, Trevor McLaughlin, Austin Dengler, Cole Reiter, Christian Gray and Jace Hadachek all won by forfeit.

Tanner Hilton had a tough test at 195 pounds in Jaryd Young, but won the match by a score of 3-2.

The Knights will be at the conference tournament this Saturday, January 26 at South Tama, with sectionals taking place next Saturday, February 2 at Vinton-Shellsburg.
