Kermit K. Brinkmeyer, 87

Kermit Brinkmeyer, 87, of O'Fallon, Missouri and formerly of Dysart, passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2012. Visitation will be held at Overton Funeral Home in Dysart of Friday, January 11, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the church. Service will be at Dysart United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 12 at 10:30 a.m. Military graveside rites and burial will occur at Dysart Cemetery.

Kermit K. Brinkmeyer was born in Hardin County Iowa on May 26th 1925. He was the sixth of eleven children born to Paul and Amelia Mannetter Brinkmeyer. Kermit was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical and Reformed Church in Hubbard, Iowa. He attended a one room schoolhouse through 8th grade and graduated from Hubbard High School in 1943. Kermit served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the western Pacific and then attended the University of Iowa graduating in 1949. On September 14th, 1950 he married Margaret Barnes of Dysart, Iowa. After college Kermit was employed by Commercial Solvents, Remington Rand Corp., and Waterloo Corrugated Box Company. In 1959 he joined his brother-in-law Bill Barnes in the retail hardware partnership Barnes and Brinkmeyer Hardware in Dysart, Iowa. They remained in business for 38 years retiring in 1997. "Brink" liked to play bridge and was a master woodworker. He collected exotic woods and enjoyed showing and teaching his craft. After making their home in Dysart for 50 years, Kermit and Margaret recently moved to O'Fallon, Missouri.

Kermit is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Freeman and Donald, and two sisters Kathleen Murray and Jean Tesdahl. He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Lyn (Doug) Griffin of Sarnia, Ontario, Janet (Brian) Bateson of Altamonte Springs, Florida, and Gail (Mark) Uhlenberg of O'Fallon, Missouri. He is also survived by two brothers, Paul and Philip and four sisters Frieda Larson, Charlotte Wilson, Marian Herrington and Joan Juehring, seven grandchildren, Mark Griffin, Laura Griffin, Krista Griffin Martin, Brea Bateson Reger, Blake Bateson, Andy Uhlenberg, Megan Uhlenberg Fjellanger and ten great-grandchildren.
