Jan. 5, 1933

Christmas Day was the 20th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Fry of Dysart. On Monday, about 30 relatives brought well-filled baskets and a bounteous dinner was served.

A number of relatives and friends were dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Baker Friday evening in honor of the birthday of their son, Robert Waller.

Jan. 7, 1943

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Buchanan are the parents of a daughter born on New Year's Day at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. She has been named Linda Lee.

The five-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Louie Matthiesen fractured his collar bone when he fell down stairs.

Jan. 3, 1963

Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Woods are parents of their first child, a girl, born December 31, at St. Francis Hospital in Waterloo.

An increase in postal rates will become effective Monday, January 7. It will now cost five cents to mail a letter.

Jan. 4, 1973

Caroline Krafka of Dysart is featured on the "Farm Women on the Go" page of the January issue of "Farm Wife News," a national publication of rural women.

Wayne Holder and Robert Loutsch are the men responsible for taking down the three-story bank building on Dysart's Main Street.

Jan. 6, 1983

The Black Hawk County Conservation Board officially closed the west entrance to Hickory Hill Park, north of Dysart. The park may now only be reached by way of its east entrance just off County Road V-37 (Dysart Road.)

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Kullmer are pleased to announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Karen, to Steve Pippert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Pippert. A February 12, wedding date has been set.

Jan. 7, 1993

Announcement is being made of the engagement and approaching marriage of Kristine Karoline Krafka and Martin George Edleman, both of Fort Dodge. A March 20, wedding is planned at Corpus Christi Church in Fort Dodge.

Tama-Benton Co-op in Dysart has recently announced the hiring of Matt Petersen as the new Agronomist at the Co-op.

Jan. 2, 2003

The Union vs. Don Bosco wrestling meet is always a highly anticipated meet each year. This was a huge win for the Knights as they dropped the Dons 36-34.

UMS's handyman custodian Mike Hansen's last day of work was Friday, December 6. Mike has worked in the Union Community School District the last 13 years, starting at the high school.
