The 8th grade Union Knight girls' basketball team opened their season in a big way at South Tama on Tuesday, November 20. The Knights A & B teams both recorded big wins. For the A team, Jackie Barz led the Knights with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and two steals in a great opening game. Courtney Powell had an equally impressive night with 16 points, 10 steals and one rebound. Ashley Carey came up big as she added 10 points, five steals and two rebounds. Maggie Driscol proved pretty steady as she contributed five points with six steals in a nice performance. Chloe Grosse had a nice game with four points and a steal, while Peyton Parker added two points, five boards and two steals. Krystal Putz and Brianna Harvey did a nice job off the bench for the Knights. The final was 56 -20. The Knights were very patient on offense and did a nice job of running their offense. On defense, their press in the first period was pretty overwhelming to the STC Trojans.

In the second game, the Knights won 29-14 in a well played game. Krystal Putz led the Knights with 14 points, two rebounds and two steals in a well played game. Anna Garwood's speed helped her with nine steals and nine points in a nice effort, while Maddie Winter reacked up five rebounds, two steals and two points. Brianna Harvey showed dominance on the boards also with six rebounds and seven steals while adding two points. Bobbi Hilmer and Ashley Carey added two points, one steal and one rebound each, and Peyton Sash and Sophie Hayungs did a nice job off the bench defensively. The girls showed a lot of hustle and determination while holding the STC Trojans in check on the scoreboard.
