Ralph E. Shinn, 91

Ralph Edward Shinn was born on a farm near Clio, IA, son of Jesse Logan and Eva Wright Shinn. He received his education in the Clio and Lineville area. He then entered the United States Marine Corp where he served his country during WWII in the South Pacific for two tours as a heavy equipment mechanic. Following his discharge he returned to Lineville and on February 7, 1946 he was united in marriage to Coy Ermalee Bright. He began working as a mechanic in the Lineville area. They later moved to Buckingham, IA where he worked for Garvey Plumbing and later drove a bulk fuel truck. They then moved to Traer where he worked as a mechanic at Kavalier Chevrolet, Vokouns and Deke Auto. He then took a job for the City of Traer and was in charge of the Street Department until his retirement in 1985. Following Coy's death on August 12, 2012 he continued to make his home in Traer and his death came at Sunrise Hill Care Center on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at the age of 91 years. Ralph was a 60 plus year member of the Traer American Legion and a 25 year member of the Traer Fire Department where he serviced as Fire Chief for many years. In May of 2011 he was privileged to be a part of the Honor Flight to Washington DC to visit the World War II Monument. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Coy, two brothers Everett and Earl and a grandson. He is survived by two sons, Larry (Jackie) Shinn of Waterloo and Jerry (Bonnie) Shinn of Reinbeck, IA, 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and a sister Hazel (Donald) Rockhold of Lineville, IA.
