Main Street gets new sign

September 20, 2012
Dysart Reporter

The LaMaison Woman's Club plant flowers and maintain the 24 large flower barrels on Main Street each year that the DDC and memorial funds have purchased. This year, the LaMaison Woman's Club have added metal sculptured signs made at Rowan Manuf. to the barrels. One of the latest signs added says "Volunteers Make It Happen."

It recognizes the contributions made by the Dysart Volunteer Ambulance Service and the Dysart Fire Department, as well as all Dysart volunteers and organizations. Another sign depicts the Hospitality and Tour Team and its service to bring business to Dysart.

The sign Partners in Progress recognizes business, agriculture, 4-H, FFA as well as volunteers working together to make Dysart prosper. The arboretum reminds us of all the work the Dysart Tree Board, the Dysart Beautification Committee, the Dysart Garden Club, Dysart Lions Club, Dysart Woman's Club Members and city employees do to beautify our city. Other signs represent the Dysart Historical Society, Old Iron Days and Club Dysart's 4th of July Celebration.

The 20 LaMaison Woman's Club Members plant, water, deadhead and care for the barrels from early May until frost in October. After the first frost, plants are removed and artificial decorations added until they are decorated for Christmas; after the holidays decorations are added for winter. This project would not be possible without the help of grants from Tama County Foundation, The Farmers Coop Telephone Company, Caseys and in the past several grants from the Dysart Community Foundation. Discount prices from Terry's Food Center, The Blacksmith Boutique and Rowan Manufacturing have helped with this project as well as help from the DDC and the FFA keeping plants overwinter in their greenhouse.

Stop on Main Street and take a close look at these signs that represent things happening in our city! Also watch for new decorations this Christmas season. "Together We Make It Happen!"
