The La Porte City FFA Historical and Ag Museum will hold an old fashioned Autumn Fair on Sunday, September 23 from 11-3. The day will be packed full of FREE family entertainment:
The State Historical Society's Traveling Civil War Trailer, "The Fiery Trial: Iowa and the Civil War". This exhibit utilizes engaging graphics and multimedia presentations to present a visual timeline of Iowa's participation in the Civil War, focusing on the impact of the Civil War on Iowa, including personal stories of participants such as Annie Turner Wittenmeyer, and the role Iowa played in the Civil Rights movement when it approved the right to vote for African-Americans. It also includes a computer program that allows visitors to research Civil War ancestors by person, town, township or congressional district.
THR Zoological Farms of Charles City will bring a menagerie of kid friendly animals including a zebra, hedge hog, giant frog, snakes and monkeys to name a few.
Free children's arts and crafts area where children can make and take a variety of items
Free children's activities including a water ball fight, Nozzle the Clown and his balloon artistry, farm chore relays, face painting, animal science educational area, free bow hunting instructions, and a hay fort
Live musical entertainment by Jeff Mattison, whose easy style and smooth sounds are popular with groups of all ages
Free tours of the Smithsonian exhibit "Listening to the Prairie: Farming in Nature's Image and The Personal Face of War Part II
Rededication of our historic Fire Station and Jail House, with the buildings open to the public
Dedication of our Hero's Walkway
Street vendors will be selling jewelry, textiles, pumpkins and gourds, fall dcor, and wood carvings. And of course there will be plenty of food available. Pulled pork sandwiches and hot dogs, homemade pie by the slice or whole pie, cookies and bars, popcorn, mini donuts, and Hansen Dairy's Moo Roo ice cream will all be available for purchase.
