Melvin Hagge, 99, of Traer, passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at Covenant Medical Center. Services were held on Friday, July 27, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Traer. Visitation was one hour prior to services, with burial following at Buckingham Cemetery.
Melvin Charles Hagge was born May 7, 1913 in Crystal Township in Tama County, Iowa, son of Hanus and Agnes Paustian Hagge. Melvin was raised in Crystal and Perry Townships and received his education in rural schools through the 8th grade. On April 6, 1935 he married Katherine Dvorak at the Marshalltown Methodist Church. Melvin and Katherine made their home in the Traer and Geneseo area where they farmed for 35 years and Melvin worked for the Traer Street Department until 1975. In later years they made their home at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer. Melvin's death came at Covenant Medical Center in Traer on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at the age of 99 years. He was long time member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Traer, Lutheran Brotherhood and Tama County Farm Bureau. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Katherine on February 18, 2012, one son Dean and 3 sisters. He is survived by two grandsons Mark and Todd and 5 great grandchildren.
