Lucille (Lucy) Mabel McConnell was born October 20, 1917 at Henry, Illinois, the daughter of Bertha Belle VanLaningham and Alva Cunningham.
Lucille was blessed with three children: Lou Anne, Chuck, and Rhonda.
She worked for many years at Rath Packing in Waterloo in the Sliced Bacon department. She lived at various towns in northeast Iowa until retiring to Independence and then Oelwein. She liked crocheting, flowers, fishing, watching political news, and being with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Dysart Flower Club in her years living in Dysart.
Lucille entered into her eternal rest on Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at Mercy Living Plus in Oelwein following a brief illness. She was 94 years of age.
Preceding her in death were her parents, two grandsons: Travis Burhenn and Jayme Flockhart; and her brother Alfred.
Survivors include her three children: Lou Anne (James) DeWoody of Laughlin, NV; Chuck (Joanna) Howell Jr. of Oelwein; and Rhonda (David Byers) Burhenn of Grinnell, IA; grandchildren: Kris, Crystal, Brandi, Adam, Andrea, Dennis, Steve, Celeste, Scott, Marisue, Christina, and Corey. Many great grandchildren; her brother Leonard Hunter of Independence, two sisters: Winifred (Virgil) Bateman of Winthrop and Leota Reed of Winthrop; nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.
Memorials will be given to Hospice. As per her wishes, Lucille has been cremated and a memorial service was held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 13, 2012 at the Fawcett Funeral Home in Winthrop with Pastor Dean Schlitter officiating. Friends called from 10 until 11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
