Norman G. Cooper, 73

Norman Gene Cooper, age 73, died May 7, 2012 at his home in San Antonio, TX, after a long illness.

Norman was born to Mildred (Herring) and Floyd Cooper in Blencoe, IA on February 24, 1939. He grew up and continued to be involved in the family century farm until his death.

Norman graduated from Mondamin High School in 1957 and earned his bachelors of science degree in education from the University of South Dakota with a major in mathematics and a minor in earth sciences. He was a math teacher in Dysart, Iowa from 1961-1997 when he moved to San Antonio, Texas. He taught middle school math in Natalia; TX until his retirement in 2010.

He was a dedicated teacher, loving husband and father who enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending quality time with his close friends and family. He was involved in the Dysart Lions Club, the Dysart swim team, booster club and a volunteer for the Dysart Ambulance service. He was an avid spectator of his son's and grandchildren's sporting activities. He was a member of St. Peter Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church.

Norman is survived by his wife of 40 years, Patricia; children, Mark (Beth) of Princeton, NJ; Tim of San Antonio ; Michael (Norma) of San Antonio; grandchildren; Nicolas, Michael and Quinn; brother Tom (Pam) of Moville, IA; sister Beverly (Tom) Buckman of Long Boat Key, FLA: sister-in-law, Sharon of Mondamin, IA and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother James Cooper.

A "celebration of life" memorial will be held at the Mondamin Community Center, 200 Maple Street, Mondamin, Iowa on Saturday, July 21, 2012 beginning at 5 p.m. with a meal at 6 p.m. His family requests that you bring your favorite story or memory of Norm to share.
