Alan was born Aug. 1, 1960, in Des Moines, the son of Fredrick and Janet (Glowiki) Porter.
He was a journeyman carpenter by trade for the last 30 years.
Alan took great pride in the amount of time he spent in his son's life. He coached him in sports. They enjoyed many outdoor activities together: fishing, bike riding and boating. They also enjoyed cooking together. Alan taught Jon many of life's lessons.
He was a great storyteller who loved to share his stories and his very unique laugh.
Those left to share his memory: son Jonathan Porter of Dysart; stepdaughter Jennifer Lassen of Waterloo; brothers Craig (Susan) of West Des Moines, Brian (Robin) of Long Grove and Amy (Mike) Burke of Davenport; father Frederick Porter of Eldridge; and Jonathan's mother, Deborah Boeckmann of Dysart.
