Pioneer construction means jobs

June 14, 2012
Alissa Klenk - Reporter , Dysart Reporter

Construction for a soybean receiving area at Pioneer Hi-bred International Inc., a DuPont business located just outside of Dysart on Highway 8, started in March and is expected to be completed prior to harvest this fall.

The new construction will include a receiving area, scale/pit, and a head house, which will enclose the bins. This will allow Pioneer to receive soybeans during inclement weather. The Weitz Construction Group out of Cedar Rapids is overseeing the construction on the over $3 million project.

The construction is a result of major expansions to the Pioneer growing area last year, which includes area in about a 30 mile radius of Dysart. "We now raise approximately 15,000 acres of commercial soybeans in the area. It went from around 2,000 acres to around 15,000 acres in a year or so" said location manager Stacie Buhr.

Pioneer has future plans for expansion within the next three to five years. These expansions will facilitate soybean sales and increase growth. Expansions at Pioneer will result in increased job opportunities at the plant.

"There are a wide range of possible opportunities that may be available including administrative, production, technical, or business related positions within the next three to five years," said Buhr.

Pioneer will be hiring three people in the coming year and plans to hire five to ten in the next three to five years.
