Relay for Life schedule finalized

The American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Tama County will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday evening, June 15 at the South Tama High School track. In the event of rain, the Relay will be held in the South Tama High School gymnasium. Fundraisers have been held in Dysart, Gladbrook, Tama, Traer, and other sites in Tama County.

The schedule of events for the Relay has been announced by the planning committee. At this point 23 teams have registered to participate.

6:00 p.m. Welcome by David Svoboda, Mayor of Toledo

Presentation of Colors

National Anthem

Survivors Victory Lap

Traditional Native American song for Survivors

Caregivers Celebration Lap

Music by Salt & Pepper DJ Entertainment

Memory Wall available 6 p.m. 6 a.m. for posting messages, pictures, & memories

Food Stand open 5 10 p.m.

6:30: Silent Auction Begins: 2 hours to bid.

6:30 8:55: Games for Kids of All Ages

7:30: Fight Back Ceremony

8:30: Silent Auction Closes

8:55: Raffle Drawing (Quilt, Hot Air Balloon Ride & Rose Sculpture)

9:00: Luminaria Ceremony

11:00 12:00: Frozen T-Shirt Contest: Team members compete to put on an Icy T-shirt the fastest.

12:00 1:00: 1950's Hour: Break out the poodle skirt, rolled jeans and white t-shirt and be ready to Twist and Bop

1:00 2:00 Silly Hour: Be ready to do the "Hokey Pokey" "Chicken Dance" and other "silly" dances.

2:00 3:00: Poker Lap: Receive a card each lap, after 5 laps highest hand wins.

3:00 4:00: PJ Hour: Wear your favorite pajamas

4:00 5:00: Back to the '80s: Wear your best 80's outfit and answer 80's trivia.

5:00 6:00: At the Beach: As the sun comes up it is time to head to the beach. Wear your beach attire, sun screen, and sunglasses.

5:50: Last Lap

5:55: Closing Ceremony

This event is open to anyone interested in furthering the fight against cancer. The funds raised are used in research to find cures, education on how to reduce the risk of cancer, and support for those currently battling cancer.
