Members of La Maison Women's Club of Dysart met on May 16 to plant foliage in the 23 barrels throughout Dysart. The barrels, which were donated in memory of various people, can be found on Main Street, the Post Office, the Community Building, the Dysart City Clerk's office, and Terry's Food Center.
Each year, La Maison Women's Club applies for grants for this project through the Tama County Economic Development Commission, Casey's General Stores, and The Farmer's Cooperative Telephone Company (F.C.T.C.). They are still awaiting approval for two of these grants, but have received a $500 grant from F.C.T.C. which covered the expense of the plants and decorative art from Rowan Equipment and Fabrication in Dysart. Pieces of art will be made for each barrel featuring aspects of Dysart's history.
The F.C.T.C is able to award grants to local organizations with unclaimed patronage monies. In the past, the F.C.T.C was required to send these funds back to the state, but now they are able to keep the money local and use it for community development in Dysart and Clutier. The plant barrels in Dysart require a community effort to plant, maintain, and preserve, but the efforts of each organization keep the streets looking beautiful.
