The Union High School boys track team had a good showing at their opening meet last week in Vinton. The event marked the beginning of the 2012 track season, and things are already off to a great start for the Knights as a record-setting performance set the tone for the season to come.
Kyle Ansley placed first in the Shot Put and set a school record in the process, throwing for 54' 8.5". Ansley, who coaches expect a lot out of this season, will see increased competition at this week's meet in Hudson. He also threw for 114' 5" in the Discus.
In the individual running events, Trev Hadachek placed in three seperate events, finishing first in the 100 Meter Dash with a time of 11.42 seconds. Hadachek also finished second in the 200 Meter at 23.56 and eighth in the 400 Meter with a 54.50.
Wes Burnside was the other Knight to place in individual competition, with a time of 11.68 in the 100 Meter, good enough for fourth place.
Others who ran include Neiko Morris, who ran a 28.72 in the 200 Meter. Morris also ran a 1:13.67 in the 400 Meter Hurdles.
Tate Hadachek ran a 1:01.24 in the 400 Meter Dash, and Trey Davis placed in the 1600 Meter, running a 5:38.90.
In addition to Ansley's spectacular day in the throwing events, Josh Clark placed in the Discus with a 119' 3" throw, and also notched a 38' 7" in the Shot Put.
The Union relay teams all performed well, placing in each event the participated in. The 4X100 Meter Relay team ran a 51.67, the 4X200 team ran a 1:43.40 and the 4X400 group finished with a 4:15.60. The 1600 Medley Relay group rounded out the relay events with a 4:06.80.
Union participated in a meet at Hudson on Thursday which ended too late to be included in this edition.
The next meet for the Knights is Monday, April 16, at 5 p.m., when they will take on Oelwein. The boys are also in action on Thursday, April 19, at 5 p.m. against Denver.
The Dysart Reporter will have continuing coverage of the Union High School track teams as results become available and the season progresses.
