Warren W. McElhinny, 85, of Cedar Falls passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2011 in Cedar Falls following a lengthy illness.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the Geneseo United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held following the visitation at 10:30 a.m. at the Geneseo United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Geneseo Cemetery, rural Buckingham.
Warren W. McElhinney was born on March 20, 1926 in Traer, to Eric and Judith (Nelson) McElhinney. He graduated from Geneseo High School in 1943. Warren served in the United States Army during WWII from 1945-1946. He attended Iowa State University graduating in 1950 with a B.S. in Agriculture Engineering. Warren married Patricia Peterson in 1954; she preceded him in death in 1985. He then united into marriage with Patricia Porter on March 22, 1986 at Geneseo United Methodist church in Buckingham. Warren worked as an Engineering Supervisor for Chrysler in the Chrysler Space Division. He worked on the first space ship Booster Rocket and also being the Senior Engineer in the Chrysler Missile Division. Warren was active in golf, cross country skiing, biking, bridge, tennis, walking and writing poetry.
Warren passed away on September 28, 2011 at New Aldaya Lifescapes in Cedar Falls from a lengthy illness. He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Patricia; a brother Donald McElhinney and a sister Doris Kimmelshue. Warren is survived by his wife Patricia of Cedar Falls; a son Mark McElhinney also known as Skye McCloud of Oregon; 2 step-sons: John Stein and James Stein both of Raytown, Mo., a daughter Nancy Gulsvig of Waterloo a step-daughter Brenda (John) Rees) of Cedar Falls,; 3 grandchildren: Charles (Emily) Tumath, Chad (Sara) Tumath and Lynsey Gulsvig; 2 step-grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a brother Ralph (Helen) McElhinney of Sterling Heights, Mich., and a sister Judith (Joe) Peluso of Land o Lakes, Fla.
