This meeting was preceded by our annual Gold Star Luncheon at Big D Restaurant in Elberon. Then members met at the Elberon Community Center for our September business meeting:
President Lorraine Vileta gaveled the meeting to order with the following members attending: Wilma Parizek vice president, Betty Prusha treasurer, Pat Sauer historian and music chairman, Dorothy Hayek chaplain, Marne Chalupsky, Darlene Balvin,
Norma Riha, Barb Formanek, Marce Nekola chaplain, Shirley Christensen secretary.
Colors were presented by Sgt. At Arms Barb Formanek and Pat Sauer accompanied the group to sing the National Anthem.
NEW BUSINESS Betty Prusha treasurer reports the treasury and gave up to date details. A customary treasury audit is being planned by Dorothy Hayek, Marce Nekola and Wilma Parizek. Lorraine is going to get a list of Tama County Veterans in the Veterans Home at Marshalltown that need help. We will choose one to help and encourage.
Financial request by Marne Chalupsky to be reimbursed for postage stamps. $13.20. motion to pay by Pat Sauer; seconded by Dorothy Hayek. All aye's.
Unused stamps were given to new secretary Shirley Christensen.
Financial request by Lorraine Vileta to be reimbursed for greeting cards and mailing expenses $61.97 motion to pay Pat Sauer seconded Dorothy Hayek All ayes.
Lorraine asked if we want to contribute to the Tama County Auxiliary Emergency Fund to help members in distress. After discussion Shirley proposed that we give $10.00 and Marce Nekola seconded. All ayes.

A card of cheer was signed for Norbert Caloud.
On August 23 Lorraine and Shirley attended a School of Instruction for President and Secretary for Tama County in Gladbrook. Among other things we were told that next year national dues will increase $5. and then 50 cents every 3 years thereafter.
Considering this we held discussion of how to manage our local dues. Barb Formanek made a motion that local dues need to increase to $17. next year. Arlene Fintel seconded. All ayes. This will be monitored as time passes.
Discussion that we can offset expenses by having bake sales.
The Gladbrook meeting was held by Martha Travis from Shellsburg. She is new Department President. She talked about the upcoming national Legion convention in Minneapolis. Her term project is to get a nice bench for the Veterans Home. We were asked to sell $1. raffle tickets for $5. worth of groceries.
October 25, 2011 Past Presidents Parlay will be held in Elberon. Asking for decorating and entertainment ideas/help. To be discussed seriously next meeting.
Marne is collecting school supplies for local grade schools to give to the unfortunate.
Wilma commented that Estelle Herink renewed membership and read a nice greeting from her.
Lorraine read a history of the Gold Star program and also read poetry "The Table Set for One." She prepared that table.
POW-MIA Day is September 16 this year.
Discussion was held about the piano at the community center and the Elberon City Council will be contacted out of concern.
