On February 20, 1950, Hilda was united in marriage to Vitus Kucera at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, rural Vining. They lived for a short time east of Traer before moving to a farm west of Clutier. They farmed until 1984, when Vitus retired from farming. They later divorced.

Hilda's passion was gardening. She grew many different varieties of flowers to place in St. Wenceslaus church and Corpus Christi chapels and her home. Her colorful gardens slowed traffic driving past the farm. One of her favorite flowers was cannas, planting in excess of 350 hills. She grew various vegetables, which she canned for her growing family, and raised and sold hundreds of boiler chickens. Hilda also enjoyed baking kolaches, rolicky, angel food cakes and pies for her family and friends. She loved playing cards with the neighbors. She also loved babysitting for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed fishing with them. Her face would always light up when they came to Grandma K's. She always made sure she had treats to give them. Hilda was very active on various community and church committees. She was a member of the KD Lodge and Women Foresters. She also sold Stanley Home products for many years.
