Winona R. “Nonie” Fehl, 90

Winona R. "Nonie" Fehl, age 90, of La Porte City, died Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center after a long and full life on earth.

She was born September 26, 1920 in Littleton, the daughter of Edward and Amanda (Benordin) Jesse. She was united in marriage with Merlin B. Fehl on September 9, 1950 in Nebraska City, Neb. He preceded her in death on March 20, 1991.

Winona and Merlin farmed near La Porte City for many years. She was a member of the American Lutheran Church in La Porte City and served as the volunteer organist for the congregation for 35 years. Winona was a volunteer at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo for over 20 years. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Jean Russell of Omaha, Neb., a son, Dean (Mary Jo) Fehl of La Porte City; five grandchildren, Stephanie (Rodney) Fredrick of Krum, Texas, Jeffrey Russell of Elkhorn, Neb., Alissa (Brad) Schmitz and Ben (Sandy) Fehl all of La Porte City and Brandt (Andrea) Fehl of Cedar Rapids; eight great-grandchildren, Sam Fehl, Shay Fehl, Josef, Mack, Amelia and Nash Schmitz, Katherine and Jacqueline Fredrick; two sisters, Wilma Marshall of La Porte City and Margaret (Dr. Richard) Brust of Monmouth, Ore.; three brothers, Leland (Betty) Jesse of La Porte City, Edward Jesse of Jesup, and Willard (Lois) Jesse of La Porte City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Florence McDonald and four brothers, Melvin in infancy, Raymond, Russell and Virden Jesse.

Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2011 at the American Lutheran Church in La Porte City with burial in Westview Cemetery. Public visitation was held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday at La Porte City Funeral Service and after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the American Lutheran Church.
