Ethel Vogeler, 84, Traer died Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, in Marshalltown under the care of the Iowa River Hospice Home. There will be no visitation. A memorial service is being held on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Traer. Internment will be at Dysart Cemetery.
Ethel Marge Vogeler, 84, of Traer, was born on August 19, 1926 in Faulkton, S.D. She was the daughter of Matthew and Sigrid Anderson Kelly. Ethel attended school in Faulkton and then taught country school. While on a trip from Aberdeen, S.D. to Faulkton she met Mel Vogeler and they were married on July 10, 1945 in San Diego, CA.
Ethel and Mel made their home on a farm in the Traer area and for a time she worked at Black's Department Store in Waterloo. She especially loved spending time with her family and her grandkids. She was a member of St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Traer.
Ethel's death came on Monday, February 21, 2011 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Melvin on February 10, 2011; and two sisters, Helen Lowe and Eleanor Sorensen. She is survived by sons Mike (Hala) Vogeler of West Des Moines, John (Diane) Vogeler of Maxwell, Joel (Deb) Vogeler of Marshalltown and Paul (Stephanie) Vogeler of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Lynn (Richard) McClanathan of San Pedro, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother Richard (Norma) Kelly of LaMirada, Calif. and a sister, Maxine Erikson of Tulare, Calif.
As a show of sympathy, memorial contributions should be directed to Ethel's church, St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 207 Taylor, Traer, Iowa.
