TOLEDO-Edwin J. Wacha, 87, of Toledo, passed away Friday, January 14, 2011 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, January 17, 2011 at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama with Father Michael Mescher and Father David Kucera as celebrants. Interment followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery in rural Toledo. Visitation was held on Sunday, January 16, 2011 from 3 to 6 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with a Vigil Service at 6 PM.
Edwin was born on June 2, 1923 in rural Toledo, Iowa, the son of George and Louise (Chaloupek) Wacha.
On January 28, 1947, he was united in marriage to Rose Zmolek at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in rural Toledo. They farmed seven miles east of Toledo until 1997 when they moved to Toledo. Edwin loved farming, taking care of livestock and being with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, playing cards, going to dances, polka music and taking naps under the tree. He was a member of KD Lodge and Catholic Order of Foresters.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, George Wacha; and three sisters, Esther Hlas, Edna Buresh and Rita Hlas.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Wacha; five children, Duane (Carol) Wacha of Newton, Dennis (Jackie) Wacha of Montour, Diane (Marty) Kucera of Kansas City, Mo., Donna (Craig) Fish of Toledo and Dallas (Shelly) Wacha of Sugar Land, Texas; twelve grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Irene (Milo) Dvorak of Traer, Marcella Dvorak of Toledo and Hilda Kucera of Traer.
A memorial fund has been established.
