Thelma G. Hallberg, 99, formerly of Dysart, died at 7:20 p.m. November 10, 2010 at the Vista Woods Care Center in Ottumwa. She was born August 6, 1911 in Ottumwa, to Ernest and Margaret Williams Swanson. She married Clem Hallberg on May 31, 1932. He preceded her in death on Sept. 6, 1991. She and her husband owned & operated Swanson's Grocery #2 at Wapello & Fifth in Ottumwa and then moved to Dysart in 1957 where they owned & operated Hallberg U Save Grocery. She returned to Ottumwa in 2005. Surviving are her son Mark Hallberg of Ottumwa; six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Steve Hallberg; two sisters, Ernestine Swanson and Maxine Holder and a brother, Kenneth Swanson. Funeral services were 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13 at the First Lutheran Church in Ottumwa with Rev. Ralph Kister officiating. Cremation followed the service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Ecumenical Lord's Cupboard in Ottumwa. Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa in charge of arrangements.
