Concert Season Begins at Union High School with a Change

October 14, 2010
Dysart Reporter

.There is a change in the time of the first concert of the Union High School Fine Arts Season. The Union High School Vocal Music Department, under the direction of Tim J. Mitchell, will present their fall vocal concert on MONDAY, OCTOBER 18TH AT 8:00PM. Please note the change in time. This was done to accommodate the freshman football game that was scheduled on the same night. 2 different groups will be performing on the inaugural concert of the 2010-2011 season. First will be the 16 students auditioning for the Iowa All-State Chorus. They will be performing the 6 pieces that they are preparing for the auditions on Oct. 23th. They will be followed by the 87-voice Union High School Concert Choir. The choir will be performing a variety of pieces ranging from a beautiful setting of the Southern American folksong, "How Can I Keep From Singing", to a rousing contemporary spiritual entitled "Walk Together Children", to the dark and ominous theme song of a recent movie, "The Ballad of Sweeney Todd". Tim J. Mitchell, director of the program stated, "I am very impressed with the work this young group has done so far this fall. They have really started to develop that rich choral tone that Union audiences come to expect from us quite quickly. This promises to be a very exciting year."
