The Dysart Fire Department will be asking residents for particiation in Operation Edith on Tuesday, October 5, at 7 p.m. as part of Fire Prevention Week which runs October 3-9, 2010. This year's theme for the week is "Smoke Alarms: A Sound You Can Live With." Families are asked to plan escape routes with their family members so that everyone knows a safe way to get out of the house in case of fire and where to meet once outside the house to make sure that everyone has escaped. Points to stress are to stay low and crawl under smoke, put a damp towel over your mouth and nose, don't go back for anything left inside, make sure doors are not hot before opening, and meet at the planned location outside. After an escape route has been planned and practiced, residents are asked to turn on their porch lights to show they took part in the escape experience. Residents are also encouraged to test all smoke alarms and fire extinguishers and make sure all family members know where they are located and know how to operate them. The fire department will be going to The Playhouse Daycare, the D-G Elementary School and Union Middle School to teach students and staff the rules of safety in case of home fires. Anyone having any questions can contact the Dysart Fire Department or one of its members.
