We are saddened that a letter from the Dysart Development Corporation office was massed mailed to the Dysart area urging residents and businesses in Dysart to support an out of town newspaper in order to help promote Dysart.
We think this action seems to go against the organization's own mission statement, an organization that the Dysart Reporter is also a member. The Dysart Reporter met with a few members of the DDC several months ago when the letter writer expressed concern that some local news was being missed. The Dysart Reporter asked for examples and has attempted to shore up those areas of concern.
In addition, the Dysart Reporter specifically asked for those representatives present from the DDC to take turns writing a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly column in The Dysart Reporter. We suggested the column could be whatever frequency the organization wished and the Dysart Reporter offered all the space they needed in order for the DDC to promote anything they wished to emphasize. Thus far, no column has ever been submitted. As a small town weekly newspaper with limited resources and a small staff, we rely on and welcome news tips and submissions from many sources. Our newspaper is sure we could always do better and we are certainly trying and will try even harder.
We do feel the best source for promoting Dysart; however, is a local business that carries proudly the name of Dysart in its masthead and one that already reaches nearly 73% of the area's residents. We believe support starts at home.
We hope you continue to support our newspaper. And, if you see something happening and think it should be in the paper, send it to us and we will publish it or call us and we will try to cover as many events as we can.
Thank you for your continued support.
The Dysart Reporter
