6th Grade students participated in DON'T - Drugs Offer No Tomorrow throughout the second semester of school. As part of the coursework, each student wrote an essay about his or her commitment to stay drug and alcohol free. Second place winners in each of the five sections were awarded a certificate and special sheriff's coin. First place winners in each of the sections read their essays aloud to the assembly. Black Hawk County Sheriff Tony Thompson was on hand and Jeff Kennedy was the featured speaker. Black Hawk County Deputy Joe Stafford is UMS's DON'T instructor.
